Sustainable Travel

We’re more than aware that for a lot of people, sustainable travel is a contradiction in terms. How can something that generates so much carbon possibly be sustainable long term?

We understand that aviation releases more CO2 per passenger than any other mode of transport and that put simply, travel is an incredibly carbon intensive activity.

But we also know how important it is to be part of a global community, with whole countries and communities relying on international visits for their livelihoods and well-being. We also know how essential rich, engaging overseas experiences can be in guiding personal development, empathy, and perspective. We cannot turn our back on travel but we – along with others in the industry – cannot underestimate the impact our passion has on the places, people, and wildlife we love either.
 

• Sharing the commitment to unite all stakeholders in transforming tourism to deliver effective climate action. This includes fostering a new, climate-focused ethos within our own company and partnering with other organisations whose culture aligns with our own
• Supporting the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050. This includes educating our teams on how to reduce their personal footprint and to understand sustainability issues associated with travel
• Aligning our actions with the latest scientific recommendations and supporting campaigns for wider change that will ensure a rise of no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100

• Making promises we cannot keep or that are simply unattainable – just so we can use eco ‘buzz words’
• Formally offsetting our emissions to shift our responsibility to someone else
• Ignoring feedback – we know this is a journey and we’re constantly learning so any thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated info@outlookexpeditions.com

1. Deliver a climate action plan within 12 months of signing
2. Report publicly both progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as the actions being taken, at least annually
3. Align our plan with five shared pathways (measure, decarbonise, regenerate, collaborate, finance) to ensure climate action is consistent across all of tourism
4. Share information on activities connected to Tourism Declares and the Glasgow Declaration among contacts and networks
5. Work in a collaborative and constructive spirit with other members of Tourism Declares and signatories of the Glasgow Declaration
