The activities in this itinerary will offer a challenge as they might be activities that you have not taken part in before. The most strenuous activities are the day hike and the overnight canoe journey, these are both for short durations. You should have a relative level of fitness. You should be able to walk around 13 miles with a day pack weighing around 7kg at a speed of about 3 miles an hour. For your canoe journey, you do not need any previous experience. Your guide will provide a short lesson before taking part to ensure you are comfortable and prepared with the necessary skills that will be needed to safely manoeuvre the canoes.
Finnish culture is not to dissimilar to the UK, making it a destination with a low cultural challenge rating. Transport options are very efficient, and your accommodation will be in log cabins with good facilities. Finnish people have a close connection with nature. You will be introduced to the Finnish way of life gaining knowledge on wilderness skills, the flora and fauna and experiencing a traditional Finnish sauna which the Finnish see as a cleansing of both the body and the soul.
The weather in Finland can vary greatly during the summer months. The average temperature range is between 10° to 30°C. Similarly to the UK, rain is possible during the whole of the summer.
Summer days are long and light, in June and July there is between 20-21 hours of daylight per day and in August between 17-18 hours.
