Timeline
When you sign up to an Explore trip, it may be up to 18 months prior to departure, so it may seem like a long way off!
However, there's lots you can do to prepare for your exciting overseas adventure.
Below is a timeline of the key milestones in the journey.
15-18 Months
Basecamp - once you've signed up and your Explore trip goes live, you will have 24-hour access to the portal. Here you'll find all the specific information relating to your trip. You'll be able to view a checklist of things you need to do and provide to ensure you are ready to travel when the time comes. You'll also be able to manage your payments here too.
Website - you'll find lots of general information and guidance here on this site, to help you prepare and get to know the destination your visiting. Check out our useful guide to fundraising too.
12-15 Months
Destination Information - We'll issue specific and detailed information about your itinerary and destination.
Fundraising - You should have planned some activities already but now's the time to get going. The earlier you start, the easier it will be.
Fitness - Depending on the challenge level of your particular Explore trip, you'll need to make sure you're fit enough to enjoy every mintue. Check out our fitness guides.
Basecamp - you'll need to provide us with your medical and fitness declarations.
4-11 Months
Get to know your destination - the culture, language, food and history - it'll maximise your enjoyment of your Explore trip.
Visas and Vaccinations - you are responsible for knowing what you need to travel and having everything in place by the time of departure.
Leader Allocation - a Leader will be assigned to your Explore trip, we will send you a profile so you can get to know them a bit before meeting at the Prepare to Explore event.
Fundraising - this is a crucial time to ramp up your fundraising. Use the Ideas & Inspirations and Materials & Resources available on this site to help you.
1-4 Months
Prepare to Explore - you will be notified of the date of your event by the school and in Basecamp. This event is designed to help you with last minute preparations, get to know your Leader and team mates and ensure you are ready to travel.
Reminders - if there are things left to do, you will be sent reminders by email and notifications in Basecamp
1 Month
Get excited - by now you should be well prepared and have everything you need in place to travel. Now all you have to do is let the excitement build and look forward to an incredible adventure!
Remind yourself about what you want to achieve and get out of the experience - whether it's to deepen your understanding of the world around you, get to know about another culture or improve your teamwork skills - there's so much to gain!
